"...I thought it good that, as a congregation, we offer purposeful prayer on behalf of our nation and our leaders, to fulfill the biblical directive that we pray for those in authority over us (II Timothy 2:1,2). As your pastor, I want you to join with me in believing for healing, repentance, and blessing. Here's a prayer... it seems... appropriate today.
Dear Father,
We come before You today mindful of our deep need for dependence upon You. We thank You for leaders You have raised up to lead us who, without hesitation, have decided to follow You, embrace Your ways, and uncompromisingly commit ourselves to Your sovereign will, hand and rule.
Too often our commitments are both convenient and shallow. Give us boldness to believe for a spiritual awakening, a national stirring of conscience, and a deep and rich hunger for righteousness to reign.
May we possess a conscience capable of discerning rightness, honesty, and truth, as well as an attending boldness to do it.
May our hearts be renewed in the true spirit of liberty, by delivering us from blinding pride, selfish indulgence, and slackened morals.
I specifically pray that You will heal us, O Lord, from the cowardice which has made us more afraid of rightenousness than of sin.
Today, O Father, I pray for our leaders and friends, from the White House to Your house. I pray that You will cleanse their hands, purify their hearts, and then strengthen them to do Your work.
Fill them with wisdom from above that gives them vision and direction, and energize them daily by the spirit to do Your will.
Enlarge their hearts to know You more, and give them their hearts' desires as they seve You faithfully, wholeheartedly, and humbly.
In Jesus Strong Name,
Ron Mehl"
